DSLR or Higher End Prosumer?

Posting Mad!
I am going to begin budgeting for a higher end camera than I currently use. Right now I use a cheap Canon Vixia HF300 for all of my videos. I want to begin using a camera that will allow better control of the shots I am putting together. The Canon I have has very limited control and it must all be done on the touchscreen. No manual focus, no aperture control, etc. Keeping in mind that I would have to budget for everything, lenses, audio, etc, what would be the best approach to get the best video for $2500 or less?

On the camcorder end is the Canon XA20 and some audio equipment. On the DSLR end, by the time you figure in a decent lens I am down to the 60D. I'm kind of torn, what are the pro's and con's of each?

What exactly do you want to do with it?
Both are very good solutions, but some are more suited for other reasons.
Bit more info on what/where you plan on recording and more? :)

Remember, DSLRS are not made for filming.. but you get BETTER quality of filming then the same ranged camera in price. but then it has its major downsides in costs... Proper SD cars ( get pricey) a certain amount of time to film...

Like the other guy said, its up to you and it depends on what you can do with it :)

These days they are made to film more and more! Iirc, some scenes of the F1 race track were filmed with Canon 5Ds

Well, most of the stuff that I've done up to now has been me sitting in front of the camera. Here and there I've inserted some vignettes kind of acting out what I am talking about. An example of something I'd like to be able to do is re-shoot my "how to survive a nuclear bomb" series with live actors. I would narrate over the top of the people acting out the "how to survive part".

the pirce of the canon 5d costs 3000 dollars... unless your going to pay that then nice :p i would prefer get the high end video recorders for 3000 from sony or RED

Nah it's not that pricey, there are MKI's and MKII's that are fairly cheap.
RED cameras are in the 30k league :p

i wouldnt know much about the k1 or 2 .. just know the 3 suprasses the other 2 ALOT! meaning i think a 60d from canon would be enough, or the 550d or 600d. i think they use the mark 3 btw at the f1 lol

Hm don't think the MK3 was out by then, could be wrong.
