DSLR Lens Hood

Undiscovered....
For those of you who use a DSLR, how often do you use a lens hood? All of the time, or under certain conditions??

Was testing my new DSLR outdoors last week and got a fair bit of flare from the sun, so looking to buy one.
I'm tempted with a cheap compatible one for £7 from eBay, but then again I like my stuff to be original, but the original Canon one is £25!! lol

I don't know how true it is, but when I bought my Nikon I was warned not to buy any non-brand stuff like lenses etc because it will void both my warranty and my insurance if something went wrong!

I have one and I have used it exactly none times.

I use a polarizer for times when I'm up against direct sun, but I feel like people spend a lot of time in after effects to get that leaky light/flare look and if I can pull it off in camera I try to do so.

Almost all the time for me. I'll only really take it off when I need to use a filter or something. Although when I'm out and about I won't use a lens hood with my telephoto zoom.

One thing you can definitely go cheap on is the lens hood. As long as it does its job you shouldn't have to worry too much about it.
