DSLR Cameras for Youtubing?

Hey,

I'm just wondering if DSLR cameras are okay for making youtube videos? My channel will have vlogs and walk with me type videos. I'd like to get a DSLR because i want to have a good camera for taking good photos. I can only afford a cheap DSLR so i'm interested in like Nikon D3100 and Canon EOS 1200D.

Thanks.

Canons 1200D seems to be a nice step up from the 1100D, I'm currently looking at getting one of those as I want to start taking nicer pictures and my current camera is a little too.. 'dated'.

DSLR won't be great for vlogging if you're out and about because its quite big, but if you wanna just stand and talk to the camera something like the 1200d or 550d would be great! Check out the canon s120, not a DSLR but its pretty good :)

Oh if you want a really great one for videos and pictures, but don't really mind a whole bunch about being able to do the whole 'seflie video' while walking a Nikon D3100 is an awesome camera, I don't normally suggest Nikons.. but they're good.

If you're going with walk-about blogs then a point and shoot might actually be the best option, they're cheap, come in funky colours and very portable. A lot of them also have automatic focus and lighting settings to help quickly adapt to new conditions (going inside a shop for example).

DSLR's have great quality however they're more geared at manual set up which can take some time for a grab and go scenario. That said, 'Beginner' range DSLR style compact cameras are a great mid-level approach. It's always good to learn about differences in lenses, settings for ISO, shutter speed etc through a hobby or pursuit like YouTube.

I recently bought a new camera because my old Bridge camera got stolen (note, don't bother with Bridge cameras, they are very middle of the road and aren't good at being any one thing). I went with a Canon EOS M (This is NOT A PLUG PEOPLE!) and so far it's served me very well, it's much more compact than standard DSLR's and has the option for inter-changable lenses. For the kind of thing you're talking about I'd go for the 22mm lens because it's very compact and a good all-rounder. Best thing about the EOS M though is it's a very good camera, but they screwed up the autofocus feature and made it very slow, the camera got mauled in reviews because of it and Canon had to slash the price to make it competitive. They've since fixed the AF problem but the price point is still fantastic for how good a camera it is.

I'm in love. Clearly.

A DSLR is only good for normal vlogs. For 'daily vlogs' frankly it looks rather ridiculous. I once tried to vlog on the street with my Canon 5D and it was just so impractical that I used my iphone instead.

A DSLR is really useful for videos. For daily vlogs, I agree with everyone else who ends up using their phone/smaller camera instead. Vlogging on the street with a DSLR is rather awkward. For planned videos at home, DSLRs are great. My basic p&s camera was rather blurry, and I noticed a huge quality difference when switching to a cheap DSLR.

Hello!
If you're looking for something cheap and easy to use you should try Nikon D3100. I'm using it for about a year and it's great!

I have been checking out the Canon S120 recently, check out its test footage on YouTube, it looks really good and would be good for vlogging with. I cant strongly recommend doing a vlog outdoors with a DSLR, I mean you can, I have vlogged twice outside with a DSLR, the worst part was focusing but once I was in focus it worked well, the main downside being its weight and its not discreet at all. I only was willing to vlog like that in the countryside, in a crowded area you would cause extra attention vlogging into one, imagine tripping too with your £500+ DSLR and lens.
