Does your "YouTube location" get you more exposure?

I've been wondering how much your YouTube location on your channel actually changes how much exposure you get. For example, I live in New Zealand so I've set my channel to a New Zealand channel, but I was wondering whether or not changing it to something like the USA, or UK actually makes a difference.

I only ask, because when I change locations (at the bottom of YouTube), I see different recommended channels and videos - which considering some cites in the USA and UK have more people than the whole of NZ, changing it might result in more exposure?

Does anyone know if it's beneficial or not? Thanks!
 
From what I was aware of, YouTube still monitored the IP for the location of where the videos were uploaded. I think that location thing on the video is just for people who might have actually filmed their video in a different location or just for added information, just like the recorded date feature which again doesn't do much apart from provide info. If the location setting did effect videos; I think everyone on YouTube would be setting it to the US or UK due to the larger populations.

I'm just wondering if that makes a difference...

Oh hold on sorry I was getting default and advanced settings confused xD But yeah I still don't think even that setting would effect it. Again if it did people would probably be abusing it. Despite having my country set to Australia and videos to Australia, my highest demographics are still from the US and surprisingly Sweden.

Yeah, the main reason I even questioned this was if you for example go on: youtube.com/channels/science_education it changes per country. In NZ, you get random channels no one really cares about, but if you set YouTube to the UK or US you get the big science and education channels. It just makes me wonder then if there is a benefit to changing your country, because maybe they use locations also when recommending you videos too? Who knows.

Yeah I get what you mean, it will most likely pair the 2 of you (view + content creator) with recommendations but not always, given the size of YouTube now. Most of the recommendations that are given to me are US or UK and that's partially based off channels I currently watch. But if anyone does have more information on it I'd love to hear it, I just think YouTube would have implemented something to track IPs to stop people from setting their country to US while being in like Oz and hoping to boost rankings.
 
For sure it determines your primary viewership (the people who first will watch your videos) but you can relatively easily overwrite this by targeting content (video content that is popular in particular country but not yours).
If it could bring you more exposure I am sure everybody will be US, New York or something like this. :)
