Does using affiliate links in description violate youtube's TOS?

There isn't an easy answer to this, YouTube is quite unclear on it. There is a lot of leeway in the interpretation of the TOSes when it comes to affiliate links and it kinda depends on the context. This video gives an overview: watch?v=1cOhM3w_S6g but it's still kinda hit or miss.

As GermanDude mentioned, it's a grey area and that means a risk.
Even if there is no specific rule against them, there is this very clear rule:
"If the main purpose of your content is to drive people off of YouTube and onto another site, it will likely violate our spam policies."

I notice that lots of beauty gurus have affiliate links in their description boxes. They make sure to inform you that they are affiliate links though.
I always figured it was fine since I see so many channels doing it.
