Does renaming your channel alert your subscribers?

Hi everyone, I am considering renaming my channel. Right now my name is about 'reviewing' and I don't want to pigeon hole myself into just this one category since now I am posting some 'how-to and tutorial' type content as I experiment with what the community is looking for.

My marketing knowledge taught me that once you brand yourself it is difficult to rebrand, so I don't want to confuse the few subscribers I already have. Does anyone know if the system will notify my subscribers of the change? I hope so. If I make this change, and they don't notify my subscribers, I am afraid my subs will see a random name in their channel subscriptions causing them to unsubscribe because they don't know it is me. I also don't want to start a second channel with this 'how-to' niche. Since YouTube has made it to difficult to monetize, I need both my reviews and how-to content on my one channel.

Pretty sure they don’t. I changed my channel name awhile back, but I definitely think it was worth it considering the name I had before just didn’t really fit and had no indication of what my videos would be like
How different would the names be? Maybe try to make them similar with one word the same. Or send out a video that explains why you’re changing it

Why not - if i may suggest - change part of your channel name?
For example your channel is branded "Reviewing Virtuously". Why not change a bit of the title so that it is similar. So perhaps something like;
"Reviewing, Tuorials & How To; Virtuously" to give the impression you are staying virtuous during your how to videos and reviews and tutorials - as i assume that was the original intention of your brand at the moment? That way you have the same keywords and your channel name is only altered and not completely changed? However if rebranding, try and keep a similar art and colour style to keep the originality of your channel's style?
Not saying use that exact example but perhaps a concept similar?
Just food for thought.

Those are two very great ideas. I had planned to keep reviewing in the name. The video is also a great idea. Thanks Seansie!![DOUBLEPOST=1517170088,1517169828][/DOUBLEPOST]

Oh, Fantastic IGM! I really like these ideas. I am looking for a shorter name but one that keeps the same message as well. The graphics and branding staying the same is a great idea. That way it has a similar look, colors, etc... When I originally took the name, it was my intention to add multiple channels for each niche, but now that youtube has made it so difficult to monetize, I have to put all my efforts in one general channel.

Hmm. That would be unfortunate but perhaps they will still see my content attached to the channel name. I am reluctant to change since it is a lot of work as well that I would rather spend the time learning and creating new content..
Your original channel name is still attached to your channel via url.
My main channel url still has my old name in it, which is pretty fuckin annoying.
