Does Patreon Violate Terms of Use?

Believe this is the right section. I have been looking at some games that I want to do videos on, like Dark Souls and XCOM, and under the ToS you can't monetize footage of them. However, one of my favorite Youtubers is VaatiVidya. He does Lore videos for Dark Souls and is funded through Patreon. While he does not monetize his videos on Youtube, he still gets paid by donations.

Could someone shed some light on how this works? I'm curious about Patreon and may turn to it if by some luck my channel takes off, but I'm unsure of how it works around the ToS.

patreon is a donation website, its outside youtubes tos so there is no risk of anything. also people won't always donate money like kickstarter s dont think you can get money from patreon because its only for donation not a crowdfunding site.
