Does anyone have any advice for vlogs?

Hey.

As the new term at university is starting, I figure now is as good a time as any to start making a vlog series. I've been wanting to do this for a while, as I'm intending to try and get fitter and healthier over the next year and I wanted to use vlogs as a progress log, kind of.

Saying this, though, I am not too confident in front of a camera, and I've never really gone through with previous attempts, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice to help me out with making vlogs.

Thanks!

Before going on camera try just practicing by talking to yourself, (I have conversations with myself a lot...) it works with confidence when talking to the camera, just be natural and imagine you are talking to an actual person. Or instead, if it makes it any better, if it was a real person you'd have to have a conversation with them but a camera can't talk back so you can talk to it all you like :p

Makes sense. :) I already do videos on games, normally on my own, so I guess it'd be similar to that, except without any talking prompts from whatever's going on on the screen. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely try it out when I start.

I never vlog alone I always like vlogging with friends so that way I am more like myself and its a really chill environment. Make sure your vlog is unscripted and of course be yourself.

I'll probably have a few friends in it every now and then, we'll see how it goes. I'll also make sure to be myself. :) I wasn't planning to have a script, so I suppose that helps. :D

Make sure you have optimal lighting and add visual and audio effects to your video to make sure your audience stays attentive.

Lighting shouldn't be too much of a problem, I'll just need to find the right place in my room to set up my camera and stuff. Also, what sort of audio/visual effects would work in a vlog, do you think?

Moved this here for you :)

Thanks! :D I wasn't sure where to post it at first, but I'll certainly know next time I have questions like this. :)

The great thing about Vlogging, you don't really need alot of (or any) effects. The biggest and arguably best Vloggers out there, only use the razor tool. That is.. if there is a silent part in the video, they cut it out, and it makes the video continuously active... Some of them, use this as an effect and create sentence cuts even when they aren't needed. An example would be if you said.. "well I'm new to vlogging and this is my first video".... "well I'm new to vlogging" /cut "and this is my first video!"

I also agree that the most important thing is lighting. I don't care if its a few CFL bulbs from the Dollar Store, get lots of light! it makes a world of difference in presentation and quality.

I see. :) This seems like some really valuable advice, thanks very much. :D I'll take a look for some cheap lights in my break during lectures tomorrow. Thanks a lot. :)
