Documentary idea

I've Got It
Recently i have decided that i want to film a documentary about youtube and the community. And after researching other documentary's about youtube i have seen that they are all about established youtubers with a large fan-base already. So i was thinking maybe do one about a small youtuber(s)with a small fan-base and follow their journey of growing their channel. So what I'm asking is, do you think this is a good idea and would you watch it if it was made?

It's a good idea but it's a real gamble. If the person doesnt make it you'll just throw time and money in the lake since nobody will probably watch it. But if the person makes it and blows up it'll probably be a success,

The reason all documentaries so far have been about larger YouTubers is because you need to have an large audience for distribution if you want funding for a film. If you're catering to the fans of a channel that only has 1000 subscribers or less, chances are you have to self fund the film as there are not many people that will want to watch it. You have to find middle ground-find someone that just went viral and is rapidly growing their channel (Whatever is a good example) so you can document their rise to youtube stardom-while tapping into their new found fanbase to generate interest in the project.

I guess part of it depends on what you mean by "small" but I bet with some research, you could probably pick out a decently growing "small" channel by going on vidstatsx and seeing how they are growing and what their fans or people are saying in the video comments and how they are using social media and all that good stuff.

Either way, I would love to see something like that!

I think its the first of its kind so it will do good

By small i was thinking of someone with a few thousand that is rapidly growing, but i would like if possible to have a range of different people at different points of their youtube career[DOUBLEPOST=1376694425,1376694286][/DOUBLEPOST]Im aware financially its a big risk on my half but i think if done right it will be reasonable successful for an independent documentary
