Do you think smaller Youtubers should make only short videos?

I've Got It
So this has been on my mind for a while now and I'm posting it now since I've had friends say that my videos are too long (4-6 min long) and in this age, we all have short attention spans. So for all the small youtubers and former small youtubers, do you think we should only make short videos in the beginning and once we have an audience, start making long videos?

LoL I don't think 4-6mins are equivalent to a long video. With that being said, I agree that it's better for the channel at the beginning to make shorter videos so that people would actually watch the video, instead of seeing a new youtuber with 20min length of a video and saying "hell nah i ain't spending that much time on a video of a youtuber I don't even know". So it's definitely beneficial and good for the channel so I recommend you'd stick to 3-7min vids :)

Well i thought about this too.. I recently started doing "Road to Max level" for battlefield and that requires a lot of time a game could last up to 25 mins. Wich i dont really care because this makes happy (doing this kind of series) and at the end of the day when i'll reach the max Level i'll have probabily atleast ~200 videos+ that means i'll pop up more often in the search results because of that even if i have low video retention. Aniway my tip is that.. do whatever makes you happy doing it because youtubing requires TIME.

I made an 15+ video once and it's my least viewed video especially since it's been on for a long time.

It can work but it has to be interesting

I would take the feedback from your friends seriously. Of course do not forget to confirm with your audience retention stats.

I also think that 4-6 mins is not that long. How much of that 4-6 minutes is actually being watched? At what point in the video are your viewers leaving it?

I read in the book "How to Shoot Video that doesn't suck" that you should make your video and then shorten it as a rule by half. I know it is difficult as you spend lots of time and effort for your video. Some call it kill your baby or kill your darling.

Cutting your video by half seems like a stretch but I'm assuming its just trying to say, keep all the good moments in and the dull/bad moments out

depends on the contennt, let's players should always cut out the boring stuff and of course silence. otherwise its as boring as telling a joke when you just say a word every 10 seconds, and in between talk about the weather

At this point in my youtube career i mostly make videos i wanna watch so if they're a bit long i don't mind.
