The Potato Walrus

I've Got It
Thanks for checking out the thread :)

But let's get to the point. I dislike overly-obnoxious YouTubers because I believe that the fact that they are shouting, yelling, and talking to inanimate objects all the time, hides the fact that they don't have a real personality, so they have to adopt this look.

I highly doubt that they act like that in person, so why on YouTube? I prefer when they have actual personalities.

I attached a poll to this, so please answer that as well.

I think it's a matter of opinion of whether or not they're "obnoxious".

But regardless I agree that Pewdiepie, Markiplier, etc are obnoxious. I do appreciate some of the charity work they've done though.

I really don't like Pewdepie but I am a big fan of markiplier. I think the issue is with the ridiculous huge fan base. They started out with that "persona" at the very start and they grew so big and so fast they didn't even get a chance to learn what kind of "style" they like or want to be. They're afraid of losing fans so they stay the same as much as possible, because the sad truth is that if they did allow for even a small change in persona, they would lose a lot of fans. another issue is that they do WAY to much. If I had to do as many videos as they did, Id be emotionally exhausted. For them, it's probably easier to just babble and make over exaggerated crazy sounds during recording because making legitimate commentary every hour of every day of their lives with little breaks and no script would be impossible. And let's say they do make a scrip for what to say? If people find out or catch on, they will be hated because their commentary is not "natural" They are the way they are because they push themselves to hard, and their fans expect way to much from them. I love Marks videos, but I find that my most favorite Tubers are Let's Players. They may not have a lot of subs, and their update times might be off, but their personality's shine through so beautifully. They arn't forcing themselves to make videos. They just do what they love and they don't expect anything out of it.

Pewds and Markiplier are basically characters. I'm not sure why some people have a problem with characters on Youtube. Now something like vlogs, or something when the person tells you flat out that this is their life, as it is, I do expect them to be real. But Pewds and Markiplier (and the Critic and the AVGN) are characters. I don't watch Youtube to watch 'Mark Edward Fischbach', I watch it to see Markiplier.

I mean... I just don't get it. Do people watch TV and think Andrew Lincoln really is an ex-cop fighting in a zombie apocalypse, or that Swartzanegger really is a cyborg from the future? It's characters they play.

That is a matter of opinion. What I find obnoxious is people calling other people obnoxious. You don't like a YouTuber? Don't watch that YouTuber and move on. It clearly works for them, and he can already retire. Man, I think he could do that years ago. Not bad for a YouTuber. Perhaps that is the real reason you find those YouTubers obnoxious. Because they are successful at being obnoxious.

Pewdiepie is not really entertaining, he is just cursing all the time. Markiplier is better than him and his actions are funnier to watch. So I think Pewdiepie is obnoxious and not funny.

YouTube will always have people who are considered obnoxious, fake, actors/actresses, charming, not charming, etc... etc... YouTube is (for the most part) a platform for entertainment it's as simple as that. Some gamers do actually yell at the screen, say something or laugh out loud in their free time when something happens in the game (I rage out loud and hit things at times) and some don't. But they do on camera or during recording (like myself) not (always) to create a false sense of personality but to convey/project what they're actually thinking out loud, so in fact, you're seeing what is likely to be their true colours, even if a portion of a particular video is just them yelling or raging for that portion which contrary to what people may think is "no personality", is ironically exactly part of their personality lol. That being said my answer is yes for the little part but not the most part, I prefer humour more inline with Mr Sark, slightly dark and mostly vulgar, but I do check in on PewDiePie's videos here and there to see what games he might be playing or what videos he's making, I actually like his vlogs more than his gaming stuff now days.
