Do you need to connect a PC when recording gameplay on a PVR?

My friend is planning on buying one to start his YouTube videos, but we don't know if we need to connect it to the computer, since his computer is upstairs and his gaming console is downstairs. He is planning to get the Hauuppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition.

It is not an issue. You need a computer of course to upload the recording, but you don't need one to actually record the stuff from what I know. You should look this up though to be sure, but from my experience, you don't.

The Hauppauge PVRs do require a PC to record since they don't have the option to put a HDD in them. If you want something that doesn't require a PC you'll need to look into AVerMedia.
