Do video effects help vloggers?

I definitely agree that effects can add to a video but not if used just for the sake of having effects. Charlieissocoollike's "I'm Scared" video comes to mind. It was so different from everything else he has on his channel - the black and white effect made it stand out and sort of automatically classified it as a more serious video.
 
Yeah, I think it would help a vlog a lot if it's used in the right situation. It can add some flavor to what could be a bland video, y'know? It could give the video a little more charisma. But only if used at the right time, and for a reason.
