Do looks really matter??

Everything matters too an extent. I feel if you promote yourself and aren't afraid to be confident then you can achieve anything.

As a male with my appearance many people approach me daily. However, I don't converse with many because I am too shy to put my butt on the line.

Morale of the story, looks matter but personality is key!

I'm speaking the truth and you are living in a fantasy world. What world are you living in? Sure this isn't 1960, but there is still some racial intolerance in many sectors in society. There are many black people who want to be YouTubers that are not unsuccessful due to numerous factors and race is by far one of those factors. There are many differences between black and white Youtubers' potential audience. Look at all of the young white guys that girls go crazy for. That plays a huge role in the equation because these young girls want to see good looking young white guys like Justin Bieber(when he had respect from fans). Then there are a few racist who will never look at a black person because of the person's race.

De Facto Segregation is still strong today. Bring facts if you really want to try to lie that racism is dead.

Racism does still exist, but when we're talking in terms of why black YouTubers aren't as big as Youtubers of other ethnicities, things get complicated.

For starters, there are a huge amount of black YouTubers who are big in their own right. In addition to those already listed: Kain Carter, Tre Melvin, Spoken Reasons, Kid Fury, Latoya Forever, ThatDudeMcFly, TGMalis, BillySorrells, Issa Rae, 4YallEntertainment, Hodgetwins, Funkydineva, HartBeat, and I can go on. And that was just comedy. There's more in the beauty/how to categories.

What I think is the most contributing factor of success is your ability to relate to the masses. In my research, I have found that most black youtubers tend to be black women in the beauty category. Black hair and beauty channels are put at a disadvantage sometimes because they're speaking to a narrow audience that can relate to their aesthetic. And it's that much harder to grow your brand. When you're attractive to the majority and just making general rants and vlogs, I think success is a given.

And to say that someone's race can prevent them from having a large audience is a tad misguided. Literally everyone loves Beyonce and Oprah. Hell even Michael Jackson, but they're very talented. Granted we don't have many Black people who were able to reach outside of their demographic, and that is partly due to peoples' bias. But you need to also be extraordinary.

Also, not all black youtubers define their success by being on the top lists. Not every black youtuber wants to make it to the big screen and some of them don't even think of youtube as that kind of a platform. Most are just hobbyists. Most people see youtube as just what it is...a social network. And there's nothing wrong with that. Because people see things different.

So my advice: Focus on you and your content. What sets you apart from everyone else? What can you say that no one else is saying? BE UNIQUE. There's nothing wrong with shooting for the stars, because I'm right with you. But don't let the odds overwhelm you, and don't compromise your character to be on social blade's top channels list. The right people will rock with you and that's all that matters.

I think that your looks are what first attracts your viewers and your personality is what makes them stay. Granted there have been a lot of "hot guys" that got subs and made awful content because there are so many fangirls or guys our there.

Just be you and the people who truly appreciate you will sub and stay subbed!
