Do I need a network?

I was able to get out of my contract with my network. I don't really care to discuss why or what problems we had. They have canceled my contract about 10 months before it was officially set to be over. Acknowledging the error on their end. I was discussing it with my wife and told her I may try to join something like Machinima soon. She asked me if I needed a network and why I needed one. It was a damn good question I was unable to answer. Someone give me some pro's and con's so I can make some decisions here. Thanks!

Hey there,

Not really speaking from experience or anything here....Because I Have none lol. But I'm assuming the idea of a network is to be under a brand name? For example, if you were in Machinama then your channel would probably rack up some views because it is such a well known network and people would assume you have quality content to be able to join that particular network?

No real idea, but I'm interested to see what some other people say :)

Fair enough lol. Saw you were subscribed to thats good sports. He is certainly an entertainer!

Man I wish I could tell you, I do know machinima is a 3 year contract...if I am correct...I've been doing research on networks as well..If I were you I'd sign with a network that wasn't a locked in contract..atleast then if you didn't like it you can leave anytime

From what I hear, networks do very little to help you if you're not a huge channel. They'll happily take a cut of whatever profits you do make, though. Seriously - no one has yet to give me a compelling reason to join a network and there's no way I'd join one, personally. This is my channel and I want to do my thing on my terms.

That's kinda where I am at. I don't make a ton of money. But I am certainly wondering why I am giving up part of the money for nothing.

Plain and simple: No you don't need a network. They generally do NOTHING for smaller channels. You may get the benefit of royalty free music or something of that sort, but you can find tons of it on your own. Most people join networks because they're afraid of having a copyright strike or something happen to their channel. It's understandable to be nervous without some sort of backing, but you really don't need it and anything they can do for you, you can do on your own :)

That's a good question! If someone has had really positive experiences, I'd be interested. But, really, my gut says 'no'.

That's exactly the thing I was worried about. But I have been at it for a year and a half and have not had any copyright issues. I guess I am doing it right?

I noticed that you do gaming videos, so generally you wont have any issue. Besides as long as you're providing commentary over your videos you're covered under fair use.
I've successfully fought content ID claims by myself without any network backing several times, so I wouldn't be worried about it :)
