Do comments affect video search ranking?

They are just like metadatas (I suppouse!!)

Anyway.. comments affects people because they see the video is very highly commented and, maybe.. comments too ^^

Comments (by default) are shared to G+ so is like a share (growing your reached audience up)

Don't know the code
but I read e.where that It helps in seach ranking :]

Yes, comments help. Any engagement with the video boosts the score in the YouTube algorithm. It doesn't matter whether it's a thumbs up, down, or comment. It all helps. Bad news is that engagement is only a very small part of the algorithm so while it helps it's not going to help nearly as much as having your average view % go up by just a few %.

Yes - of course but only if these are genuine comments from real viewers. Comment for comment does not work so well.

Everthing helps, likes subs, commetsn. etc. :D

I never understood Stat4Stat (how I put it) such as Sub4Sub, Like4Like, etc.

I think in the past (3-4 years ago and more) it actually kind of worked. But Google did so many updates in the YT algorithm that now the efficiency of such practices is almost 0. Also they have more rich database now so they can identify more easily such practices - in the past the algorithm had to do much more guess work. :)
