I'm not entirely sure if this is "too soon" or whatnot for this, but I figured I'd make a thread for my Youtube Channel here. Needless to say, it's the one that's linked at the bottom of my posts.
I originally started up the Youtube channel as a bit of a "storage area" to upload videos for another website (It's linked in the channel, still, at that, although it's now one among four I got linked.), but it's since kind of evolved into it's own beast of sorts.
Here's a general description of "the usual" content I upload. It generally ties into a "retro videogame" theme:
1) I will record a Sega Pico game and upload the video log. Bizarrely enough, this is my most popular content so far. Recently I've switched to trying emulated games, rather than games ran on the hardware, both for the sake of showing the state of emulating and for video quality reasons.
Example:
This old piece is still one of my most popular Youtube videos.
2) I will record a Satellaview game and upload the video log. Ties into a personal research project. (The "another website" I was referring to, in fact.)
Example:
3) I will take a NicoNicoDouga video and re-upload it to Youtube. Nothing completely random or "memetically hip", mind, so no reupped Automatic Marios, Kumikyakus, Vocaloids, or Touhous. I dig through NicoNicoDouga for obscure video game-related media, especially promotional VHS Tapes with quirky advertising. This serves for dual exposure of NicoNicoDouga community content and videogame obscurity research. I will take content that was "split" on NicoNicoDouga and combine it together for ease of viewing, too. Ties in to 2) a bit, because one of my favorite subjects to re-upload videos of is Satellaview content archives.
4) Other things I've uploaded: Recordings of fangames, soundtracks, and a few misc. game recordings. Oh, and hastily-made promotionals for fangame expos.
For the most part, I like to view myself akin to a game archivist, unearthing and displaying content that wouldn't be of immediate familiarity to people, hence "Kiddo's Obscure Gaming Stuff". (Also, K.O.G.S. has a nice ring to it.)
Game console systems I've covered to some degree (Not counting re-ups):
Super Famicom/Super Nintendo (especially Satellaview)
Megadrive/Genesis
PC-FX
Sega Saturn (though just one instance so far)
Note that there's not much in regard to editing on my videos - for the most part they're just footage. No commentaries, effects, or time cuts. Lack of commentary is a personal decision on my part (I make an exception for the fangames recorded from "Fangame Expo" events, but that's because the communities there were familiar with me before I uploaded to Youtube: if you try listening to them you might see why I don't usually do that). Other stuff is simply because my video editing skills are amateurish, and I basically manage this channel on my own.
As of the writing of this thread I have 3,381 subs and 1,711,889 views. I have 590 videos uploaded, although the earlier videos have more of a mixture in overall quality.
Critique will be appreciated (Although before you ask, yes, I know it'd be nice to have subtitles on all the Japanese videos), and I'm not above requests. Hope this gives me some good feedback.
