Desktop Vs. Laptop

I've Got It
Okay I know you can build your own desktop; All in ones etc. But, I'm at University and I don't like the idea of having to try transfer my build/tower/desktop home and back and home etc. I wanted to get a gaming laptop or one that has med power to run games and render; problem is with laptops it's more expensive cause it's a laptop compared to building or buying a tower. Is it worth just buying a tower to save money and more likely have more power; compared to buying a laptop, having mobility, some power( if it's the right one) although maybe paying more ?? Help :(
 
I'm gonna be going to college this fall, so I'm also prepping for a comp.
I wanted a desktop for my room but like you said, the mobility of it would be crap.
So for now, I plan on getting a decent laptop, one that can play games fairly well and easy to carry around for class and whatnot.
Then later, getting a desktop.
But this is just me, idk how much this helps you. lol
 
The only thing a laptop has over a desktop is portability, and if you really need something portable, it is worth it investing in a laptop over a desktop.
 
I like laptops mainly because they are portable. Also, some new laptops can flip into tablets. You find me a desktop that can flip into a tablet!
 
Laptops and gaming are 2 different worlds .
Inb4 Alienware worth 500 euro but they make you pay it 2000 euro just because it's Alienware .
I mean , if you want a gaming rig you're not going to get a laptop . Worst temps , worst performance , close to no possibility of upgrade etc etc . Maybe it's me but I don't have problems with moving my PC and I have a full tower . I'm used to it . I used to go to BYOC Lan events . You get a trolley and you are fine . Maybe you might wanna dismount your HDDs but that's it .

Useful for a gamer .
 
You will always have more bang for your buck with a desktop computer. However I do understand the annoyance of a desktop.
Me personally I have both. I have my power rig for intense work and then I have a strong laptop for editing on the go. This way if I have to edit I can, but I would hate to work on that full time by itself.
When I am in a pinch it is wonderful, but having to work on it for a while is no good.

However, when I was in college I used to have 2 editing labs. One at my apartment "my main one" and a second one at my girlfriends. At my girlfriends I had a desk set up with a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
I would plug all these up to my laptop, slide it to the corner and it felt just like a desktop. Just not quite as much power.

Maybe you could do something like this so you have the ease of working yet portability when you need it?
 
Thanks everyone, by the looks of it everyone is saying desktop. I will most likely get it. At the moment my rendering time goes way way way over 2 hours for a 10 min video lol but, thank you everyone. YT community is beast !
