Custom youtube URL? Yay or Nay?

it's not a cost thing - it's like unlocking an achievement in a game:
  1. You have 500 subscribers or more.
  2. Channel is 30 days old or greater.
  3. Channel includes a photos for the channel icon.
  4. Channel includes uploaded channel art.

and they seem to be revamping the requirements again, but that is the general gist. At one point you had to only get 100 subscribers i think.

I think definitely worthwhile! You can the advertise your channel much easier, and people remember it easier too.

I believe the requirement is still 100 subscribers + the other requirements Andie_the_Lab noted (according to the support page linked in Creator Studio > Status & Features > Custom URL ). This is something I am trying to attain for my channel (still at 20 :help:), because it can help for the following:

1. SEO - youtube.com/channel/[username] is a lot more search engine friendly than a mixture of obscure letters and number
2. Branding - Like any milestone, the more blind you have attached to your name, the more serious your channel will be taken
3. Future Requirements - YouTube is constantly making these achievements more difficult (i.e. monetization requirements). You might as well capitalize on this feature before acquisition gets more difficult in the future. It won't hurt you.

Best,
Mark

I don't think it's so important. People use YT as a search engine, which is exactly what it is. You will reach your audience with or without it. Be sure to be set on it permanently if you do..not sure if you can change it back?

The only benefit of a custom URL is that it makes it easier to put on social media or branding. It looks more professional for someone to have "Youtube.com/tytdreview" on there site or on a business card than it does for someone to have "youtube.com/channel/owieihjf92y2893yr238ydhwuiend" if you know what I mean

Though I also believe once you hit the level where your eligable for a custom URL youtube begins to more actively push your videos up the search as it sees you as more turstworthy with your content (That could just be a myth mind...though I have heard it mentioned round here a few times)

Great insight. I agree it does look more professional. The channel we are building right now is a family vlog/toy channel..so it may not matter not nearly as much in entertainment. If you are giving value on a more professional level, then I would have it. It can't hurt and it's a good point about the potential push from YT.

A YouTube url looks cleaner than a long a** bunch of letters and digits. So it's definitely a yay.

But you need to have at least 100 subscribers (among other things) to make one.

The channel URL is also part of what the search engine parses through so I do think it would be worthwhile to get a custom one.
