Custom Thumbnails

Gaming, Lego and Food and Water. I could survive.
So I take it that that the only way to get custom thumbnails is to have had Adsense for at least a month and your account in good standing...Correct me if I am wrong but can you no longer obtain custom thumbnails through a partnership?
 
You don't need AdSense, just click the button that says "Enable Monetization", accept the terms and you should have them within 40 days! Hope it helps ^_^
 
Yup, just to add to the conversation:
I opened my channel and immediately uploaded a video and enabled monetization through Adsense with it. Then about 40 days later, custom thumbnails was enabled for me.

I'm still missing the ability to add a Channel header banner image though.

I feel you with the new layout I am going to miss all the branding
