I'm under no illusion that this grafix is 100% or up to scratch with alot of you guys work as im sure that comes with years of experience. I recently posted a thread asking for service to do a banner/icon etc and decided to have a mess around a work.

I personally find more professionally looking channels appealing so want to try and do the same for mine. Now the question is do i learn to do it myself or pay for the service.

Bellow is my FIRST ever attempt at making any sort of graphic and would like your guys opinions (don't worry i wont cry if you say its crap! )

Any advise good or bad is appreciated.

Pretty good for your first :D My main recommendation would be to have the text be more legible. While it's easy to see on the large version, it's very difficult to read it when it's so small. Remember to consider all the sizes you'll use the graphic for and work based around that. Keep practicing though, and you'll get even better ^^

I enjoy the design! Just a suggestion, maybe add a bit of drop shadow to both images so that it has a little more depth to it, but other than that it looks excellent.

Very good point! ill like the jazzy font but i now that i have looked at it smaller myself i see what you mean. Maybe go for a more bolder font :)

The font could work better with an outline/stroke. If you want something better than an online editor, I'd check out Gimp or Paint.Net, both of which are free to download and offer a wide range of tools that could help you :)

I second Gimp, it's what I'm actually using right now. It takes longer to create some of the simpler effects that Photoshop can do, but if you put in the time you can make some great stuff for FREEEEE!
