Correct tagging DOES work...

Just tested it myself. So a new horror indie game came out last week on Gamejolt....

SO.. i downloaded it and done a full let's play video on this and with the correct tagging etc my video is showing up as number 5 on the search for 'The final one game'. There are so many videos of this playthrough with 50k-500k views that are BELOW mine!!!

Mind blown ! !

Sweet! Just decided to look you up, just in case Google/YouTube wanted to lie to you to make you feel good. Can confirm, you are in search for a specific query.

Keep in mind, that this is only half the battle. You uploaded this video roughly 5 hours ago (or at least it went public then.) and YouTube has a sort of "Grace Period" where they show these on the first page of search. That being said, if your video doesn't get a lot of views/doesn't get good retention times. It will drop. Hard.

If you're not already, I'd recommend promoting it on relevant sites. Reddit has specific subreddits for almost every subject. You just have to find them, follow the rules, and obviously post relevant content on it. Also, bare in mind that most subreddits aren't typically a fan of LPs and such like that.

Hope that helps, and I hope it stays on the search!

Those 500k view videos don't usually tag properly and so you'll rank higher. If these guys learned how to tag they'd block anyone out forever but oh well s2b them!

It will drop if you can't keep up with the 100ks though. I had a video get top 5 for super Mario Bros which is just full of videos but it lasted 2 days and versus the million view videos it just couldn't compete. It got 5k from it though and still ranks for Super Mario arcade game though.

I hope you can stay up there!

Yep, SEO is really gold with YouTube, and anyone who isn't using it is missing out. Almost half of my views come from search, and the other half mostly come from suggested videos and the like (which my videos only get into after ranking well in search first). If I hadn't taken the time to work on ranking videos high in search, I'd probably only be at 100-200 subscribers by now.

To give you all an idea of just how crazy the difference can be. Here's a picture of the views on one of my videos with poor SEO/tagging/etc, versus one that I tagged, titled etc properly and got ranked in search:

If that doesn't convince you I dunno what will!

Great information. I've been carefully learning about how to use the proper terms to tag my videos and to put those into the descriptions, as well. My videos aren't really the type of things that people actively search for (except the hair videos, which are about 10X more popular than my other videos), so that can sometimes be a real challenge.
