Copyrighted Thumbnails?

Hmmm. I don't think there is. If so that seems like it would be dumb. I would understand it, but it wouldn't make sense. I guess maybe if you use the exact image for what ever it is you are doing.
 
There are not specific cases where copyright exists.
As far as I'm aware, copyright can apply literally anywhere. If you create and distribute content that ISN'T your own (Or content you don't have permission to use) then you're breaking copyright. It should apply literally everywhere, although I believe the law can differ in certain circumstances such as 1) The content being used for non-profit (If you're not making ANY money from it, there are some differences in the law but this doesn't mean copyright doesn't apply)
or 2) You are within the "Fair use act" which you should look into because I know very little about this.
 
yes everything can have copyright even images. So make sure you use images of the same game.

(I do think not many people get strikes from thumbnails) But it's always better to avoid.
