Hi,
I am new to uploading videos on youtube and I've only uploaded 6 or 7
My videos are me covering rock / metal songs on the guitar
Last weekend I uploaded a cover of Steel Panther song Just Like Tiger Woods. It was on youtube for no more than a couple of hours before I got a notification of copyright from UMG. They had banned it from playing on mobiles. I disputed this on the grounds that it was simply a guitar cover and I was not making any money from the performance.
It became available to view again which lasted a couple of days before UMG banned it again. This time I disputed it again claiming this quote "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use" as I saw this advice on other youtube videos
The video has now been removed and there is a strike against my account.
My questions are:
Is there something I can do when uploading covers that will not result in my video being taken down? (as there are multiple videos of the same song I covered on Youtube)
Will uploading a 20-30 second intro of an original piece before the cover fix anything?
Have I simply been unlucky with this cover or am I likely to receive these copyright problems with every cover I upload from now on?
I appreciate any help with this as I have contacted Youtube for advice and they will not give a straight answer, just a series of links to FAQs
Thanks
