Content vs quality

Hey everyone, so this is my first advice thread and any input would be appreciated. So basically I know a lot of people expect great quality when it comes to making videos, but of course not everyone has the money to buy a thousand dollar camera. So I'm wondering which is more important in the youtube community, content or quality? Of course we need an equal balance of both, but which would you prefer? I figure if you make good content the quality shouldn't really matter, but at the same time I've noticed people complain sometimes when the quality isn't great.

You can use many phones and cheap cameras and still get HD quality, I use my ipad and the quality is fine :)[DOUBLEPOST=1376941860,1376941805][/DOUBLEPOST]So what I'm trying to say is that you can get quality and content without having to spend thousands :)

You really cant have one without the other. If there is a entertaining person i watch and his videos are at 360P with borders i probably wont stick around, same goes if a person has the best set up in the world but the videos they make are complete garbage. Quality however would be more important because if your content is decent and you have great quality (Resolution, Editing, Sound...etc) then there is a high chance the viewer will like what he/she sees. Remember first impressions last and if people have to watch something else while listening to you then chances are they wont be there very long.

I prefer content over quality however most of the times people tend to like channels which upload quality videos more and I think that's understandable.

Generally, content is more important than video quality. If you have a good video with acceptable video quality then it's good, but if you have a video that sucks that's shot in 4K then it still sucks.

I still think audio quality trumps video quality though. Video quality normally isn't that important unless you're filming with a potato, then it matters.

I might subscribe to someone who has good content but a bad editing or the video is only in 360p but I will NEVER subscribe to someone just because their video looks good, if I don't find their videos intresting in any way thank I will skip

BTW I have a Galaxy s plus that you can now buy second hand in perfect shape for around 200$ at max and it can film at 1080p HD, so you don't need a thousand dollar camera unless you planning to do some skids or more complex videos.

Content is always more important than quality, but in today's YouTube there are so much content that if you want people to notice, you have to have excellent quality.

the days when you could upload anything and get shitloads of views are sadly gone.

content > audio > video

For me I'd say it doesn't matter what HD settings or pixel rating the video I'm watching is, as long as I'm engaging with what I decided to watch. There's no denying if someone puts out a vlog that's on a crappy camera and terrible sound, people are much more likely to switch off within the first minute unless you GRAB THEIR ATTENTION very quickly. My video quality was p**s poor when i first started, but I think it helped me develop a style of video where I'd make the viewer want to stay through quality content, instead of content quality (if you get what I mean!).

I've since piled money into my YouTube hobby, and I have a much better camera and a professional mic, and I think my videos are now really strong for the amount of time I've been on YT. But only because I had to learn the hard way how to make a good video.

Sorry if that was rambling and made no sense, I'm typing this while on a phone call.
