Hey I am just chucking this thread up as a fellow Console player myself and I would have loved a good article with all the Information of all the Recorders pros and cons at my finger tips so here it goes.

1.The Elgato this is the Game Capturer I have but I also have a PS3 which becomes a problem as with the standard YouTube account you can only upload up to 2 GIG and to record in full HD on the PS3 with the Elgato well exceeds the permitted limit of the standard limit. The cost for me was $280 and that was when it was relatively new to the market but I believe now it has dropped so it is around $220 to $240.Also it can be quiet a pain to set up sometimes, It is also good for live steaming and also uses it's own editing system which needs to be downloaded and can only be used with the Elgato. Rating 8/10

2. The Hauppauge is really the top of the range in terms of quality it really has set the bench mark in HD PVR's (game capturers) the quality is the same as most the only difference is unlike most recorders it can record and play in HD quality at the same time while most lag. It is compatible with Xbox and PS3 (will have to look deeper for other platforms) the only problem is with quality usually comes price and in this case it is not different the price is around $330 to about $370. Rating 10/10

3. The Roxio is the cheaper option which is not always a bad thing you can get started with the hobby by buying this cheaper version and is a great stepping stone for your choices and ventures into buying more advanced Game Capturers, but they now have 2 recorders a cheaper $125 to $140 or a more expensive $160 to $180 the cheaper Roxio is a non HD model but none the less is still a great starter set! But Roxio have also decided to create a HD model to compete with the other higher quality (in certain aspects) company's. One of the great pluses of the Roxio HD and non HD is they are both extremely simple to use and upload, unlike some that can be quiet tricky also they are quite a decent price to hop into the hobby of YouTube gaming it is comparable with Xbox PS3. Rating 6/10

4. The AverMedia HD recorder this is also a very easy to use recorder (My friend has one) it really is quite a good value bundle as it has a massive amount of space a hand held controller with all the buttons you need record in HD and it very simple to set up and at a great price of $140 to $160 also you don't even need a computer to upload. Rating 8/10

5. The Kaiser baas: Series 8 Game Recorder is the cheapest on the market and is really the bottom of the latter in terms of quality but is great for a gamer on a budget it is around $45 to $60 and has good graphics for the price of it. Rating 5/10

I really wonder if we're still going to be able to record with the new generation consoles. If there will be only HDCP for movies, Netflix etc. Otherwise most gamers on Youtube are screwed.

The Game Capturers that use a HDMI cable with more than likely more (Elgato) but unfortunately the old fashion but simple and reliable AV corded recorders are being pushed out.

I have to say I love the Hauppauge, especially the Gaming Edition 2.
It can record PS3, 360, PS2, Wii, GameCube, Wii U, old video cameras (if you need to make your old home videos into digital) etc.

This should be stickied, To save myself money I'm investing in a $400 gaming PC so I don't need a big recorder. Is this a good move?

Yeah well these are all Console PS3,Xbox and etc recorders so if you are looking for a PC recorder I would definitely purchase Fraps as my friend has it and it is extremely easy to use and good quality. I may make a Computer version of this article if you would like to help you out?

With $400 you are not going to get good gaming PC, better wait for PS4 and use the onboard recording option to record your gameplay, cheaper and you can actually play games
