confused about copyright music

so ive been reading a lot about becoming a youtube partner and whatnot. one very important issue mentioned everywhere is the restriction to use copyright music unless given the permission from the artist.
now, what confuses me is one particular channel that seems to bypass this.
im talking about this guy youtube/user/AgonyVII (cant post links)
he makes call of duty montages, and ive seen him use music from bands like Rammstein, Machinae Supremacy, RED, Crown The Empire, all pretty popular bands. And those videos have ads on them. So im not getting it. Is he getting the permission to use the music from all these artists or is he bypassing the copyright issue somehow?

I'd really like to figure the copyright nonsense out because im planning on starting my own channel with the intention of becoming partnered, however I use rather popular artists' music on my movies so it really bothers me.

thats a great site and its not that expensive to get license for songs there
