Comment visible when logged in, invisible when not logged in

Hello Forum,

I'm not sure whether I'm right here with my question, but I did not find a better place to ask. If you can direct me to a "better" forum, please do.

I commented on somebody's YouTube video and called a statement made in that video irresponsible and stupid. "Stupid" is the only word in my comment that could possibly be called a profanity, and I did not call the maker of the video stupid, just one of his statements. A couple of hours later I can see my comment when I'm logged into my YouTube account - but I cannot see it when I look at the video with a different browser without being logged in there (some time earlier it was possible to see the comment in a different browser without being logged in).

Can somebody explain this to me?

Is "stupid" in YouTube's view a profanity?

Can it be that the maker of the video deleted my comment and that YouTube is "hiding" such a deleting from the person who made the comment?

Thanks!

It could be that the comment was flagged for spam or was flagged for being potentially inappropriate. I have my own word filter that's jam-packed with all sorts of things that will auto-flag comments and hide them from the public. I think YouTube has one, too, but content creators can add their own if they want to make sure certain things like their address, phone number, weird spellings of curse words, links, etc. don't make it into their public comment section without additional review....

Yes, that is possible.

If a Youtube channel doesn't like a comment left on his/her channel, he/she has 2 choices:

1) Hide comments by that user. - The user can still make comments and can still see comments when logged in but those comments are not visible to anyone else. - This sounds like what has happened to you.
2) Block comments by that user. - It's possible to actually stop a user from writing a comment on a channel. The user will see a message that he has been blocked.

More info here:

Thanks for the information.

How tricky! Since most people never log out of anything or delete their cookies, most people will never know that their (blocked) comments are not visible to others.

That's kind of the point I think. Channel owners often use that option to block the comments without getting into a conflict and drama with the person. :)

What drama can there be after blocking a person? The person is blocked, the channel owner has peace, end of story.

To me this looks more like a rather sneaky option to exercise concealed censorship (without loosing a subscriber) - offered by YouTube.

Well, "don't be evil" has been abdicated a while ago, and here we see one aspect of what that means.

By hassling them on social media or through their website. By stalking them in real life. By downvoting their videos. By creating another account on Youtube and then abusing them. etc etc. You'd be surprised by how petulant some people can be.
