Comedy Video Review

I've Got It
Hi,

My name is Ger, I have been using this website on and off now for a year or so.

I have been releasing weekly videos to my Youtube channel for a couple of years (with a few breaks in between). I started off doing gaming videos but then moved to Comedy/Reaction (not sure how you class my videos). I have been reviewing my own content and I have been trying to right some of the previous wrongs with my editing and content, but I need some help to see if I am moving in the right direct and whether or not the content is good or not.

If you could give me some feedback on the below points that would be great;

1. Is the content funny/entertaining
2. Thumbnails and Video titles, good or bad?
3. Sound Quality?

feel free to comment anything else if you spot something that you enjoy or don't like, any feedback will be an amazing help :)

I am also more than up for helping everyone with their channels and reviewing other people's videos, that is how we all grow together :)

Thank you in advance
Ger

Hey Guy :)

Just finished watching your video. First of all, it is worth pointing out that I think your editing are really nice. It's hard to describe other than it feels tight, with good zoom ins, color changes etc.

Also, audiowise i don't think there is much to criticize. Generally speaking I think your video reeks of quality.

However (You knew it would come ;) ) I think the comedy/entertainment itself varies throughout the video.

Humor is subjective, so you don't have to agree with me, but I have highlighted some parts of the video that i found particularly great, or lacking and tried to describe why:

Lacking:
  1. 0:15 - 0:30 - I thought the whole Ebola bit felt a bit forced. I also think It was a bit long. However, I liked the ending where you talk about sounding like Dracula!
  2. 0:41 - 1:10 - For me, the Entire Beyonce part was a bit of a miss. I thought the dancing part was more weird than ironic, which I assumed you were trying to go for.
  3. 1:33 - 1:50 - The first part of the Jaden Smith segment also fell a bit flat for me. I felt like you didn't find it as funny as you wanted me to believe.
  4. 3:53 - 4:11 - I think you need a stronger reaction, or more loud acting, before the "you need jesus" bit is effective.
Funny:
  1. 0:00 - 0:05 - Great start, thought the coffinskate was fun!
  2. 0:31 - 0:40 - The Peepole I think was really good. I laughed at your "No that would be stupid" joke
  3. 1:20 - 1:30 - Thought your read the "defense magnesium" really well, and you seemed to genuinely find it funny, which made it good i think.
  4. 1:50 - 2:41 - Loved the rest of the Jaden segment. Liked the news ish report on his stupid tweet, that was funny!
  5. 2:43 - 2:58 - Like this. However, I thought it would have been funnier if you just ended it at 2:52.
  6. 3:25 - 3:35 - Loved your reaction here!
  7. Your outro was nice!
Generally, I think your laugh sometimes lacks conviction. Like that you don't really find some of the things funny.

But overall, I like your content and I think you get many things right. Please see my comments as suggestions and not facts, because heaven knows I am struggling with being funny in my content as well x)

Quoting you on this: "I am also more than up for helping everyone with their channels and reviewing other people's videos, that is how we all grow together"

I would love to get some feedback from you on my videos. You seem like you have a good eye for quality!

Thanks for the feedback, very detailed.

I have been working really hard on the editing side, and I know there are a lot things I need to improve on in front of the camera.

I did really find "Most Trees are blue" hilarious hahaha
I will definitely be working on some of the points you made, I can see what you mean.

I will definitely check out your stuff, my eye for quality is very blurry haha, but I will give whatever feedback I can :)

Hey,

I was looking for a post by you, but I couldn't find one.. So I am going to put that here.

I watched, I watched the three videos on your channel (I clicked the link in your name). I can see a lot of good stuff but I do have some questions and feedback that might be able to help you.

Questions
  1. What do you want the channel to be? Die vs Games? or walkthroughs? or reviews? I can see a bit of everything in some of those videos (especially the Dark Souls one).
  2. Do you stream? could be good to stream and add video highlight to the channel?
  3. What games do you enjoy playing most? depending on the answer to question 1, your viewers might like watching you play a certain game
Feedback

Die Man VS His Addiction

Things I would change;

  1. I am unsure what this video is aimed at? it seems like a review/gameplay video, you seem very good at the game, you may want to do tutorials maybe?
  2. the video seems pretty long (but again that depends on what the video is for)

Positives
  1. I really liked the "b******t Mode" bit near the start, very funny.
  2. As I said you are good at the game, you could do some tutorials or montages of epic gameplay?
  3. Sound is good and you are good at commentary

Die Man VS Die Game

Things I would change;

  1. Again like the previous video, I am unsure what the idea of the video is
  2. I would make it a little shorter, or more action, unless it is a gameplay video, if you are only doing one Dark Souls video then you probably could make the character select shorter and the gameplay bits more impactful

Positives
  1. Some of the sections of the character select were funny, the deprived bit was quite funny
  2. Sound is good and you are good at commentary
  3. You explain parts of the game well, again could be used in a tutorial video

Overall I have a few suggestions but again this comes with time, but I thought I would say it;
  • Thumbnails - if videos have the same premise (you vs the game) you could make the thumbnails a little more uniform, and make them more clickable (click-bait)
  • Titles could be a little better (again a bit more clickable) -- the thing you have the ask yourself is, if that was you, would you click on the video?

Great job though, it looks like you only started 2 weeks ago and you are already doing great edits and putting videos out there, great work man.

You have gained another Subscriber! I am interested to see you grow and what videos you do..

all of the above is just my opinion... and should be taken with a pinch of salt...Great work man!

Hey :)

Thank you so much for the extensive feedback. Definitely the most detailed i have received so far!

I like your comments about what my videos are aimed at/what the idea of the videos is.

My original idea when i started the channel was to play games that i enjoy and see how far I can get in them without dying, meaning the video ends when i die.

I also want to go for a cocky/better knowing vibe with my commentary, since I personally like the contrast between being cocky, and then - eventually - dying.

Finally i would like to incorporate this into a general theme for my videos. For example in the hearthstone video I want to link this to my addiction to the game. In my next video I do a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide while playing Left4Dead2.

So i guess I am going for some sort of "lets play", but with an additional element added to each video.

But know that I am reflecting on your comments, I can see that it is not very clear. I guess I could try to be more specific, both in my videos about what the purpose is, but also in my thumbnails and titles so that people knows what to expect.

Finally, in regards to my video length, I have received several comments like yours saying they are a bit long. This is one of the things I am really trying to improve on in my next video, as I also caught myself thinking "damn thats long" when rewatching my Dark Souls video xD.

But thank you soooo much for the feedback. It has started a huge reflection process on my part!

Looking forward to see your next video as well!

No Problem I am always happy to help people where I can.

That concept of playing games until you die could be good, I would make the videos punchier though and add some suspense maybe. I think if your current video length, you are going to need people to want to see you die, how you get that however, is the difficult part, (being cocky and funny about it might help -- have a mega reaction if you die maybe).

If you do a zombie apocalypse guide, I would definitely make it punchy, shorter video, straight to each point and add some funny edits, (have a team mate die or be eaten by zombies and have a funny reaction).

the question you have to ask yourself with the videos you make, if someone else made it (me for example) would you be entertained to watch and come back? that might mean you make the videos shorter, or you add more funny bits..

With the video length, why not trying and re-edit that Dark Souls video (you don't have to release it) but just as practice.. see what you can trim out and see if it feels better or makes a difference, so next time you have a better feel for how long the video should be.

ultimately, I have been doing video editing for over 2 years now with very little success in Subs, if I can pass any wisdom on to you, it would be.. you need to enjoy what you are doing, not only the games/content, but the editing too. you may have to go through a lot of videos with low viewing numbers before you start the gain traction... and if you don't enjoy it, you will start to find it hard.

Keep at it mate, I hope everything works out well for you!
