Combining university coursework with my youtube channel need ideas

Internet Idiot who loves making people laugh
I haven't been very active on youtube or on here recently and I want to apologise for that, but those who are subscribed to me know the reason, and I am hoping to get back into it very soon :)
Anyway one of my lecturers gets really excited over the fact I have a youtube channel, and she is letting me make idents for my youtube channel, and use it for coursework.
An ident is basically a short animated logo that goes on tv or online videos etc, to promote the channel or brand, not exactly an advert but when you see it you know what it's for.
I know NBC channel has idents, but the only way i can describe it using a british tv channels point of view, is the little clip of hippos swimming in a circle, with a voiceover saying what is coming up next, and it says bbc one on it.
Another example is E4, and they tend to add funny little animations then put the logo on the end, it's really hard to explain but if anyone understands what I mean and can give me ideas that would be great.
The best ident I make I am hoping to turn into a little intro on each of my videos on my channel as well.
If people dont understand what I mean there is loads of idents on youtube and google, but I am just struggling to find any for a youtube channel, they are all for tv channels.
Getting peoples ideas would be so great as I want to do well this year, and keep my channel going thanks guys :)

Hey,
You lost me with the hippos but then I knew what you were talking about with the E4 indents. ^^

I'm just trying to think what's the purpose of your youtube ident. (I think) On TV it was used to remind people that they're watching their programming on E4 for example. Like, you're watching the Big Bang Theory, you could be watching it on any channel but they want to remind you that you're watching it on E4. Building brand association??

But on youtube you don't have to remind them to switch to your channel to watch your videos, cause they know thats what they have to do and that's the only place they can watch them from. (Maybe this is why you can't find any youtube idents.)

Is it possible to change your project of making an ident into making a high end channel trailer? Maybe that would be more useful.

Also, I could be 100% wrong. Just my thoughts.

yeah i do know exactly what you mean, unfortunately it has to be idents, an experimental film and something else which i have forgotten haha, just wanted to do a kind of advertising animation for my youtube channel thats all, but i understand how hard it's going to be, and how hard it is to think of ideas

It's a kind of animated logo I suppose? A visual (and audio way) of branding a show. A bit like a "jingle" on the radio but in this case, there's a visual part to it. They are used a lot on French TV. Are you looking for examples?

I remember the BBC having one years ago before Eastenders, it was like a bollywood dancer one and they would mention what was coming up next if I remember correctly, is it an indent or ident short for identity? I am curious :D

its really hard to explain but yeah that is pretty much what an ident is, like an animated logo or something to represent a brand, but mostly tv channels use it

They sound very similar to a quick branded intro just a few seconds long showing off the logo for a channel and then going, sounds like a 3-5 seconds long intro to me :D I dont watch any TV and haven't in roughly 5 years now so I cannot really comment on what they do now lol
