Channel with same name came up from nowhere

I've Got It
Hi!

(not sure if I'm in the right fourm, if not it'd be kind a of a mod would move the thread)
So, the following happened today:
I was watching YouTube and suddenly wanted to check out how are my rankings when searching on my name (there was an other channel a bit similar name to mine, so that's why I checked), aaaand there was trouble.
So, I found another channel [youtube address here]/user/MidnightFrogChannel which has the exact same name: "MidnightFrog".
Don't get me wrong, when I created the account I searched for my name, and there were no sign of that guy. Probably he wasn't really making videos back then, and then after first video, kinda' stopped and only uploaded a second one 2 days ago. But in that time he made a "Game Grump ANIMATED" video, which made him ~200k views, and a lot of subscribers, so making his rank in search higher.
So what should I do? Change my name? Ask him to change his name? Why would he do that, he created the channel before me, and it seems he's using the name pretty much everywhere. Should I make a new channel and start over? What am I supposed to do? What would you do? I just have no idea.

get verified first but just an analysis of your channel name.....it's kinda hard to memorize but then again boogie(what ever the numbers at the end of his name is), is big so it may not be a problem.

How do you get verified? I thought that was only for Twitter

You use to be able to do it with just having 10k subs, it's about the same but this time you need to be followed on google + as well for the non network, if you are in a network you should be able to request it after 10k subs, i know a lot of people with horrible fanbases, no google + following but 10k subs who are verified.

I honestly would not even worry about it. Just make great videos and the rest will sort itself out.

Judging by the join date of his channel and his most recent video around the time you created your account, you didn't do enough research at all. You need to filter searchs on YouTube by channel (also use " " to help) and search Google, you want to go through the first 5 pages on Google to be sure too. I suggest changing your name for ethical reasons since it was your fault to begin with. The other channel is going to grow more and more and it may cause confusion between fans or even worse fans from his end might flock to your channel with abuse and maybe vice versa, if they feel like you're using this to your advantage they can try to report you for impersonation, not sure how that will go down though I've never personally had an issue there. People above are saying you'll be fine, when it could lead to nothing but problems for you in the future. Rethink, research and rebrand yourself as soon as you can.

We had a copycat several months ago who named their channel babyteeth4. I don't know what happened to them but I can't find them now. Good riddance.
