Ah yeah, I think Youtube's been around long enough to consider Doug and James to be part of 'the old days'. I do think though that they came a bit after Fred and Chris Crocker.

Oh I see. Well, frankly I do think the Nostalgia Critic (and unfortunately the AVGN) aren't as popular as smosh, Logan Paul, Marikiplier, etc, but they do have their circle of fans. Plus, they were off Youtube for a while when they were using bliptv and came back once bliptv went bloop.
To be honest, this Channel Awesome drama was the first big thing to bring them to the 'public eye' within Youtube to other people other than their personal fanbase. Yeah, we watch the videos week in and week out... but they were never so widely discussed as they are now until this whole situation started. People only care about the drama I guess.

Doug allegedly posted on his personal Facebook that he 'worked' for Channel Awesome, as in past tense. Wether that turns out to be true remains to be seen.

Yeah... that whole fiasco, coupled with the fact that the people at Channel Awesome KNEW when they made their memorial videos for him.... that was like the final nail on the coffin. If Doug really did quit, then good for him for steering clear of all of that drama.
