Channel Name and Url Help

Hi everybody,
I finally hit 100 subs and I can claim my custom url, but it only seems to offer me my Google+ real name or real name with additions. The thing is that since I have a Scandinavian name with special letters I really wouldn't want my url to have that too as foreigners couldn't even type it without tricks. :D

Also, as most of my social media is in the shape of lastnamefirstname (without the Scandinavian letter) I was wondering is there some trick for me to get the channel url to be that too? If not, is there at least a way to make the channel url to not have the Scandinavian letter from my real name?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I would just make it with a regular A instead of a Scandinavian letter, I try to make my links similar to my YouTube channel name. If you are that concerned about your name I would change it to make it shorter on YouTube. But tbh as long as you provide a Link to your channel wherever you are promoting your channel your name shouldn't be a problem. But the thing is your name is so unique that if I search it with a regular a like this, tommi sipila, your channel still pops up! So I wouldn't worry too much! :)

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure how I can make it an A though as it doesn't allow me to type anything; it just offers my full name with the Scandinavian letter as the url.

Also it's good to know it even finds it with an a. I've just been wondering if I let's say print it on a business card to give out (flying a drone abroad always gets new friends) and people get confused if they can't type the ä and end up missing out. I wonder if the url will redirect with an a too...

Sadly my name isn't unique enough which is why I'm stuck with the lastnamefirstname format elsewhere since one of the people with the same name had taken the firstnamelastname format already. But at least I was the first one to reach 100 subs on Youtube! :D

i'm sorry but i slightly disagree. it is true that if you search for something and there is ONLY that one other thing similar - yeah you do show up. but if you plan on going a long way on youtube you should make sure that everyone can easily find you by doing youtube.com/whatever
Also if you start to get video replies or even other people talking about you that could get messy!
In your case tho "Tommi Sipilä" is just fine i guess! If i where you i would take "Tommi Sipilae" just to be sure.
Because on the technical side of things, search engines and anything working with SEO does love canonial urls and even tho most european already work with special character urls that's not liked everywhere!

PS: like your intro, is that drone footage in the middle?

Regards,

Alex

Thanks for your input. Funny thing about that ae/a thingy, I was once travelling with Lufthansa and couldn't access my booking online since Lufthansa had replaced the 'ä' with 'a' but the booking system had used 'ae'. Not sure which one is the "correct" way.

And yeah, it's drone footage. Sadly I use drone footage way too little. The Phantom is just so cumbersome to lug around as a vlogger.[DOUBLEPOST=1491852150,1491775970][/DOUBLEPOST]Okay, managed to solve this. As I'm in the partner program I was able to email the support team. I sent them the question and they made the url I wanted available, so I was able to claim it.

Thanks for everyone who replied!
