censorship

I do and don't agree. Censorship is a grey area. I think people should have the freedom to say what they like without people getting all butthurt because they said a 'bad word', but I think it becomes grey when younger people and really small children are involved. Censorship protects them in ways many people don't understand.

I'd go ballistic, for e.g., if someone told my 2 year old neice to 'f**k off', or she came up to me and said the same thing. It may just be a word, but it's still one that I don't want a small child yelling because it's what the words imply that make them so bad, not the words in themselves!

Same goes, removing the 9pm watershed on tv (a form of censorship) would be just awful. Can you imagine a viewing of Hostel being on telly right after Rugrats? ;) haha oooooh no!

Censorship is a mixed bag for sure! I think the difference comes from passive and active involvement. in the examples you gave (listening to the radio and searching on the internet), both have a very different approach to censorship because of how they divulge to you. The radio is something that has to be moderated to fit the needs of many so is accordingly toned down. They want to reach the widest audience possible so keep out anything deemed too offensive.

The internet is different in that it is an active input on your behalf, while you may choose the radio station to listen to you don't choose the music. The internet allows you to search, play, or watch anything you want because of its design. Censorship therefore loses weight as it is nigh impossible to gauge the actual age/maturity of the person using it.

However all this aside, great vid and great topic to generate some heat, keep it up and bring more questions to the table!
