Capturing Console Gameplay?

I've Got It
Hey guys, with the release of FFX HD at the end of the month I'd really, REALLY like to do a playthrough of it and upload it to my channel. Can anyone recommend the best way to go about this? I know (or at least think?) I'll need a good capture card and obviously my mic, but I've never recorded console play before, is it hard to set up to get a good quality recording? Any hints or tips from the olde- more well versed youtubers? ;)

Elgato, the Elgato also comes with the component adapter for PS3 but you need to have the component cable, they're usually like $5-10 maybe less. The Elgato is easy to use too, you install 1 set of drivers that you download from the net, select your output/input option (wii, xbox, ps3 etc...) and that's about it, you're pretty much set to go with a few other minor tweaks. Just don't use their inbuilt editor and don't use their inbuilt microphone recording as they put it under the same audio as gameplay, makes it hard to edit. To record there's a massive red button on the screen and you can just set the bitrate down to 5-6mbps in the settings. Also just make sure you pause the streaming part as it will lag your recordings, that's 1 of the only errors I have with the Elgato but everyone kind of gets it. Also make sure you have permission for FFX before you invest in recording stuff.

Also just to add: NEVER get those cheap component cables like the ones at GameStop like I did originally, they tend to have Ghosting issues and artifacts on screen, get the official ones from Sony which are the same price as stated above.

Yeah, I got 1 that originally came with the PS3 when I bought it, but it was packaged in by Target lol it was sort of their own bundle thing, had extra controller, heavenly sword & the cable. Sadly, in recent weeks, the cable now causes discolouration on the screen. Fortunately with my subconscious engineer brain, I used a shoe to place on top of the cable to hold it in the right position so it displays the correct colour xD #backyardengineering?

You're better off with an HDCP stripper cable than component cables. That way you can still use HDMI.
