captions, does anyone do them?

I Love YTtalk
I was just mucking about with the captions and I realise that its quite a lot of effort to actually do them properly, at least from my tablet it is. I was wondering what you guys thought about it, if none of us do it doesn't that mean deaf people are virtually excluded from YouTube.

I do them for 80% of my videos. It's very tedious, about 5 hours work at least for a 15 minute video and those 5 hours feel like 10 hours.

I tried doing it, I actually thought I'd do it so deaf people might be able to at least see what I'm saying commentary wise, but omg... I did like 1-2mins and gave up because I wasn't seeing progress. If it was a scripted video, maybe then it'd be okay as you could pretty much copy and paste it in (even then, it's a task and a half), but stuff done on the fly that can go up to 30mins +? I think there's software that can add captions easier than youtubes system though, there may even be a way to do it via Premiere/AE but I haven't looked into that. The thing you have to ask yourself is: would hearing impared people be likely to look up your video? In my particular case I don't overly think so as they can get gameplay from literally any YouTuber as it wouldn't be a difference, we'd all be the same to them, especially if they're deaf.

Ive tried but too time consuming for me. I mean throwing random large letters out there is enough for me. Maybe in the future but for now no, I dont have the patience for it lol :)

It's hard work, unless you've already scripted it beforehand... It takes time, even if it's just for a few words. When you do it a lot you get used to it, but it is tedious nonetheless.

I did for a while but then with 5 videos a week and working full time it's not something I have the extra time for. I feel bad saying i but it's true.
