Bit of a noobie question but here we go. So I was thinking of enabling monetization on my channel but some of my videos have copyrighted music on them, can I disable monetization for that video and not get a strike or will I get the strike even if monetization is disabled? sorry if this question is obvious but I don't know where to get an answer.

You can choose the videos that you don't wanna monetize! I think u can enable monetization but I'm not sure if they will accept it coz they might check if u got any strikes!

Everytime you enable monetization, they're analyzing your content for any copyrighted stuff. If there's any, they will deny it, and monetization stays disabled.

If there's nothing wrong, you will get dem dollars!

I had such a situation once, and my account is still in good standing, so nothing big happened. Here are some proof-pics. (I tried to monetize this video)

You're still at risk to get a strike even if you don't monetize it. But most likely you will get a content ID match on the copyrighted song. Then the owner of the song can put ads on your video and they get the money OR they will block your video from being released in certain countries.

If you were going to get a strike or ContentID match, it would have already happened.

You can't monetized the video containing 3rd party match even if you want, YouTube actually showing copyright holder's ad on those videos.

If you want, YouTube will remove the claim song portion for you, then you'll be able to monetize it.
