Can I edit published videos?

Many of the videos I have published on my channel could do with some updating but the only way to do this is to edit the original video and then re-publish it while deleting the original. This obviously loses all the statistics of the original such as views. Is there any way at all to retain the statistics? It seems a shame to lose it all and start again when just modifying or adding to the content.

There is the "YouTube Editor" that might help a little. In YouTube Studio / dashboard, select a video, and then click on "Editor" from the right-hand menu. It lets you do very minor editing (mostly just deleting / bluring stuff, and muting audio / inserting new audio), and lets you re-save the video. Other than that, you need to delete or private the old video and upload a new video. I think it makes sense that they do not allow major edits -- people might take popular videos and re-publish them with whatever they want people to see, even if it's completely unrelated...

Thanks Katy. I understand the reasons and I must admit I can think of no easy way to get round it. I will check out your suggestion.
