Can I add an Amazon affiliate link in the description section of my video?

Hello everyone,

I recently asked the same question to my MCN and they said that if I was promoting some specific item in my video I'll need to check "Item placement" in my options, but if it is something like Amazon affiliate link or merchandising websites I would not have to ask any permission, and simply put the link in my description.

Is that true? Does anyone have experience in this kind of stuff before?

I've seen Amazon & other affiliate codes in descriptions before, but not certain about it's legality.
 
Hmm ok. The reason why I am a bit worried about it is due to recent statements of YouTube about enforcing more their TOS. Channels can be terminated without warnings so... yea haha.

Sure, why not put shorthen url Amazon.
 
It does depend on your country's legislation but if you are earning revenue from the link, especially if that link is related to the product/game/service being shown in the video, you under most country's laws (including the US/ Canada/ UK) are obligated to inform your viewers of this fact. (Also note this strictly speaking should be verbal and not just a note in the description.)
 
From what I understand, putting affiliate links into video descriptions will be likely to cause your channel a strike under YouTube's Spam, Scams and Deceptive Commercial Content rule; especially if you use a URL shortener.

Better to be safe than sorry...see if Amazon is one of the Approved Merchants and use a Merc Annotation instead if it is.
