Camera Microphone

I'm thinking of investing in the Rode VideoMic for the Canon 600D soon, but I heard you had to install a programme called 'Magic Lantern'. I'm a bit worried as the camera costs a lot of money, should I do it? Is it safe?

Rode Mics are really good. I hafve a few friends who have the same camera as you and use the Rode Mic, and I have never heard any of them complaining.

It has really great reviews, I'm just scared about modifying my cameras settings, but I think it should be okay!

The mic will plug into your camera-installing magic lantern is not necessary at all. Just be aware that both the Rode Videomic and VideomicPro are both mono (dual mono) microphones, so they don't record in stereo. If you go with the standard videomic, I'd recommend you get the one with the Rycote mount (the ugly red mount), which is much more durable than the original design with the rubber bands.

Okay, that's really reassuring :) Would the only-mono recording be a problem if I'm only speaking to the mic?
