Meet Up/Gathering Calling all USA YouTubers! Ultimate Road Trip!

Let me tell you about my dream! Brace yourselves, this could be quite long but I'm gonna try and keep it short :)

So this time next year (August 2015) I'm aiming to fly to Los Angeles and do a road trip from there to New York but not in a straight line! I am going to visit around 37 states in total over approximately 35 days. My friend and I are probably going to be able to raise around £8000 between us (around $13,500) from working etc to pay for most of it. Here's the thing though, we don't want to have deadlines, we don't mind having an itinerary but we want to follow it at our own pace when we feel ready to do so.

BUT HERE'S THE IDEA! I'm thinking that maybe to save money I could try couch surfing with other YouTubers who live in the US. This isn't me trying to organise anything right now I would just like to know peoples thoughts on the idea. So essentially I could check people out beforehand so that obviously I don't end up staying somewhere unsafe and if YouTubers could let me stay at theirs for a night I could let them feature in my daily vlog (of which I will be doing 1 for every day I'm in America) and we could also film collab videos.

So essentially I could just make it a USA collaborations road trip haha :)

So what does everyone think? Would it be too risky and unsafe? Would there be enough YouTubers able to provide me with somewhere to sleep for a night. I appreciate that from time to time I would need to pay for a hotel etc but at anywhere between $30 and $60 a night it could be costly by the end of the trip. Comment below if I have forgotten to tell you anything xD

Thanks for reading :)

Don't come to my house in Cali, I don't take kindly to guests. Especially VLOGGERS. EW.

Just kidding, though I would help if I could, though I'm fairly sure my family would question the stranger I let into my house to sleep on the couch.

Haha thats a fair point! But obviously I would have a YouTube channel (and hopefully more successful than it is right now) so people will know I'm not weird :p

Sounds like a cool idea. I'm glad you're doing it with more than one person. It's definitely not something that I could do. I'd be waaaay to nervous, even if I did have a friend. I get nervous sometimes riding my bike when people in trucks stop for no reason on the side of the road while I bike pass. :\

There's a documentary on Netflix called Cragislist Joe that I believe has the same premise. (I haven't yet had the time to watch it).

Just do your research, trust your instincts if a situation feels weird and just go for it! Traveling is something I wish I could do more of, and it sounds like it'd make an interesting channel series.

Ok I will look up the documentary and give it a watch :) Thanks![DOUBLEPOST=1407910313,1407910229][/DOUBLEPOST]
You ever checked out somewhere like

When I worked in America in 2012 I was gonna book onto one of these after I finished up and just travel for a bit, but I didn't have the money at the time.

Yeah TrekAmerica is kind of like a fall back for me though. I like the fact that it is safe and you know exactly how much you will be spending but the trouble is my friend and I want to do the driving ourselves and explore America at our own pace. I believe TrekAmerica would be awesome though!

We had a plan to rent an RV aswell, but only one of us had a driving licence and it would have been way to unfair on that person. At least if you have a rental car or something. Then if the worst comes to the worst you can still sleep in the car.

Yeah I wouldn't mind an RV but my friend doesn't want to travel in one. They would be a lot harder to drive. We will probably go for a small hatchback as this will be the cheapest option. Would prefer not to sleep in the car :p haha. And we both have a driving licence so would share the driving but could still do around 4 hours per day each depending on our plan.

I think it's a cool idea and you could get some great video out of it. Not to mention it would be the experience of a lifetime!

There are some Couchsurfing travel apps that could assist in matching you up with safe sleeping quarters.
