Buying a new camera?

I know I need a new camera-I'm currently using a Flip HD, which is fine for now, but I know I need something of higher quality if I want to become a serious youtuber.

The main things I want are:
A rotating screen so I can see myself while filming.
High quality picture and sound (don't have a microphone)
Under $500 preferably

Right now I'm looking at the Canon T3i. Does anyone else use it? Anyone have any better suggestions?

Can't go wrong with the Canon T3i, that's probably the best choice in your range. You gotta note though that most cameras have just a decent built-in mic, so you should probably save up for an external mic too (like a Rode shotgun mic or a simple handheld recorder like the Zoom H1 or 4).

I have a T3i (actually 2 of them) since more then a year and use them daily.
It's definitely an amazing camera. I use the RodeVideoMic Pro because I don't like the inbuilt microphone (You can find a review on that microphone on my channel where I also compare it to the inbuilt).

You definitely need to consider that it has no autofocus. In general are DSLR not convenient at all for filming.
Maybe you can tell us what exactly you plan to do with it?

All my reviews on my channel are done with the T3i so just have a look on it to see what you can achieve with that camera.

If you have any question about it feel free to ask me :)

Shifted this to the hardware section :)

The t3i is amazing, I have one and it is fantastic, I highly recommend it :)

The t3i is a pretty good starter dslr.
A good thing with that is when you get extra money you can upgrade your glass and get some better looking shots. Then if you ever want to upgrade your body you can upgrade your body to another Canon and swap over your glass to the new body.

I have a beauty channel so I'd use it for things like tutorials, tags, hauls, lookbooks, etc.
I will definitely plan on investing in a microphone! Thanks for the recommendation!
I started looking into this because my cousin who also has a beauty channel uses this camera- and it seems to be working very well for her.

I second the T3i! I bought a 60D for my first personal DSLR. I'd worked with the T2i, T3i, and the 5D through my Universities production organization and I can vouch for the T3i. I chose the 60D just cause I had the money to blow...

But I would recommend the T3i and invest in a good lens! I also second getting a mic. Rode is truly great I use the pro and it's really good.

I used the t3i before getting it's bigger brother the 60D. Both are great cameras and both are really close to being the same in features. The t3i is a great camera that puts out good looking videos that are in H.264 format and it's files are not huge.

This is a great camera to go with in the $500 price range, but as stated before there is no auto focus so there might be a little extra work (having to manual focus) to be done. But I say if your looking for a good camera that shoots video go with the canon t3i or any canon camera. I own two 60D's and one t3i and they have not given me a single problem!

Hope this helps!
