Bridge camera.

I'll be buying a bridge camera next week, mainly for some fun photography, but are these cameras as good quality as normal slr's?

They're good cameras for doing what you want to e doing however they are more liked hybrid digital cameras than slr's (they've got a long way before being as good as an slr). If you want something that's closer to slr quality but with easy mobility then of or the compact digital cameras with interchangeable lenses
