Big mistake or massive genius?

I Love YTtalk
So it would appear that a Hunger Games video I did around 5 months ago, as of posting this thread, is getting a lot of attention because of the title "Hunger Games - Random Squids". This is because there is a YouTuber called iBasllisticSquid or iBasllisticSquids, something like that, who does Hunger Games video's, or has done them and also a thing called "Squids Sundays", again does or did.

Therefore, as I'm collecting more and more views on this video, I'm getting more attention to my channel, however, the video is pretty rubbish. Its poor audio quality, poor video quality and the commentary is very bland, personally and from what others have said I've improved and therefore people might think that I'm generally a rubbish YouTuber from watching that video.

As this may happen and put people off checking out my other video's, I added a short message about how the video is old and that my audio/video and commentary has all improved since then, 5 months (approx) ago, was this a stroke of genius or a big mistake? The reason I ask this is because I don't want people to be put off and I don't want to remove video's from the past that show how I've progressed but sometimes people will base your whole channel off of one video.

This is the video I'm referring to, hopefully you can see the annotation:

I'd keep it up! I've got one video that accounts for about 60% of my total views and it's by no means my best video - in fact it was recorded with a poor microphone and edited on windows movie maker - but it's videos like that that get people to look at your other content and stick around :)

I feel you. I have 2 videos with over 100k views, and I feel like they are both in the bottom half of my videos as far as quality goes. On the flipside, some of my very best videos only have 200 views..... Just roll with it. A view is a view is a view.

Dang, 100k is a lot.. This one only has 1k, at the moment, well just over, 1.1k *

Somehow YouTube has a fantastic ability to only give viral growth to your most mediocre videos. Leave a note AND a link to some better videos in the description.

You've got to ask yourself. Would you rather have growth on an old mediocre video or no growth. Although people are clicking off, some might stay, some might watch a different video. It is a chance to gain new viewers. I have a few viral hits that people are watching regularly that have nothing to do with my channel. They'll subscribe and find my current material and unsubscribe. But some of them enjoy the material and stay. Not all of them, but I'd rather have some then none =)
