Bi/Tri-Lingual Scripts/Uploads - Worth it?

Hey YTTalk!

I do gaming reviews, and usually don't script but have a general workflow I use. I am considering starting to script my videos, which so far have always been all English. If I script them, should I look into maybe translating them and putting them up on my same channel for others?

I know French fairly well, though some things I would need help translating (I have family, friends, dictionaries and google for that) and I know a lot of indie game developers are out in Europe and know French as well.

I also know some Spanish, and can probably get by with it with again, help from friends translating.

The goal would be to obviously grow my audience further with multi-lingual uploads of the same content, just different commentary.

Is this worth it? Is there an easy way to get accurate translations? What would it cost for like a 5 minute script to be translated if I paid someone?

Bonsoir my friend, I am bilingual too but I've lost my French skills being in the UK for so long now. The problem with this is that since your not from the EU your uploads are going to be in Idaho time zone so people from your country are going to be watching you more than from the outside (unless you schedule it so it matches EU time zone). Saying that though you could make another channel if you plan of speaking a different language and see how well that goes. Since you've already started your YT channel you need to keep the language you started with since your viewer base is not going to watch your videos if they don't know the new language and are just ganna skip your content. If your not planning on speaking a different language YouTube already uses captioning so you can upload your script for the translation and it will try to match your voice with the script. You can then use the caption editor that YouTube gives you to place when parts of the translation is going to appear. It is very tedious but it doesn't mean it will grow your audience as you will be uploading for your time zone. I think it's something unique to have and could actually grow your channel but depending on your niche (gaming) not many people tend to watch a video that uses another language they don't understand even with translation unless your a very big YouTuber since why would they watch a video of your indie games when they could watch one in their language. The subtitles stuff would only interest me if I became a popular YouTuber since I have more of a chance then to connect with people from other countries as my niche would have become more popular then.

I think it's a good idea but If you already have a viewer base it may be something that draws them away from the video since it will be spamming their sub feed with things they don't understand. Not many people on YouTube have done this but if you really want to push it into your channel then do it. It means you have a chance of creating a new niche and the good thing about it is you get feedback from that experience. I wouldn't do it but I think it's interesting since I come from Mauritius and YouTubers for my country is extremely small so having a channel for them would benefit me. I haven't met anyone that's done it yet so for me to say it won't work wouldn't be a good statement.

I think the idea is good, the question is just whether it's worth the effort.

The reason why I like the idea (and have considered it myself) is that the competition is not as big in other languages. So through that you might get better rankings and build a bigger viewerbase.

I do think, it could be distracting to your subscribers, though.
