Best Way To Start Networking?

The things I have done or thought about doing:
-Run a cheap video promotion on your channel trailer. (like $1.60 a day)
-Post some flyers at a local college
-Hit twitter hard. Follow people and interact. Grow followers, and you can grow subs. (dont do auto follow or follow chains though..)
-If you are into gaming, set up your info and promote your channel in game. My Black ops 2 emblem has gained me a lot of subs.
-Get involved with other channels. Start by GIVING, not ASKING for support. If you see a channel with 500 subs needs some channel art, make it for them free, and get a shoutout. If someone needs gameplay or stock footage, offer it. On youtube, the more you give, the more you get in return.

Pretty much what @LuiC said.

When I first started YouTube, yeah I had 3 friends sub to me at first, but these friends aren't active on YouTube all the time, and they don't even watch my videos at all.

So I started joining a lot of different forums where I made some friends and every now and then someone gets curious about my channel and checks it out, and occasionally they like what they see and I get a sub :p

I also made a lot more friends by live streaming on Twitch.

So my advice is just to join forums like this one, and be active on social networks, just talk to people with similar interests as you. And before you know it you'll be building up your own network.

And once you do, maybe you could ask or be asked to be in a collaboration video which is a great way to help grow any channel :)
Let's be friends! :P

People always say to join something like Reddit and other forums and build up a reputation, and then when you post your videos, they won't look down on you. But... Sometimes I feel like it's just not worth it. I really only have the time and energy to hang out on this one forum. I completely dumped the other 3 forums I was on, because they were eating me alive. I wanted to get out of that hole, and stay with the forum I cared about most, which was this one.

So with me officially kicking that method in the face, that leaves luck, and Twitter/Tumblr, really. You can make quick friends on Tumblr through the fandom method, where you just hang out with those who like the same things as you (I had NO idea so many teenage girls were into wrestling. Like, they love Kurt Angle because he's a fantastic wrestler. Those kind of girls). It's shocking how far you can get with some comedy, and GFX work. #winning

Twitter is much more unpredictable, as seen this past weekend when I lost over 20 followers for who knows why. Maybe because I called them out on their BS method they had, that turned Twitter inside out. I'm not gonna follow some teenager named Freddy for the hell of it. Your tweets suck and I don't like you. Unfollow.

Twitter really is just for complaining. Complaining and hashtags, because YOLO. Started from the bottom now we here.

Or... You could old school/ghetto, and put flyers everywhere in the neighborhood. I'd honestly love to see somebody try that and see what the reactions of people would be. Just hand them out, and see what they say. :D Shane Dawson. >_>

Depending on your genre and kinds of videos you are trying to make, I would focus on those online communities. For example I have a lot of cosplay related videos so I would attend conventions, contact local cosplayers and other local cosphotographers in order to collaborate and network.

Joining forums and fan pages that discuss the same topic is helpful too as you can share videos there and get feed back from the audience you are targeting.

That's kinda how I grew and gained the audience I have.

I know how to socialize, that's not the issue. It really boils down to my location, and the people around here. Locally there isn't really much I can do.
Well, I've done a collab with a guy from here in the forums (he lives all the way in Poland!), and we done it. No meetup in person was ever done. It was all online and email :)
Location doesn't always play a part. You can do collabs online now.
Give a try!

I'm aware, I've done online collabs before, xD Thanks though.
