If you use audacity you can start recording but you dont say anything for 5 seconds while everyone else talks in the background then you talk after 5 seconds. when your done recording, select the 5 seconds and go to effect-noise removal-get noise profile. after that select the whole clip then go back to noise removal and set the first option to 48 then click remove noise. that should work
If you have a smartphone, download a microphone app and use headphones with the mic. Experiment around to see how close the mic should be, and they shouldn't pick up too much noise from anyone around you.
It tends to be very tricky to cut background noise out. Ideally you would need to record with just yourself and your friend in the room. Otherwise when it comes to editing. depending what program you use, removing the background noise may sometimes affect your own recording as well and then you sound very jittery because its taken segments of your voice out.
