Best way to make Thumbnails?

Hey Everyone!

Youtube is suggesting I make thumbnails for my videos. You know... the flashy ones that grabs everyones attention, with the title and all that jazz.

So here's my question, what is the best way to make it? Anyone have a particular program they like to use? I'm guessing just a quick template with a shot from the video works right?

Photoshop works great... But if you are on a budget you can do it here for free:

Its basically photoshop but is limited to fonts and stuff. Obviously Photoshop does a lot more but like I said for free it is great.
 
GIMP is love, GIMP is life. Seriously, though, it's the best free thing since uh.... erm.... since ever really. Better than PS Elements IMHO, but for professional grade stuff, not your best bet. Judging by the size of your channel though, I think it'd be perfect.

for $35 forum cash I'd teach ya how to use it!

There are cool free editing software to try out such as Paint.net or GIMP. There is also great sites that make text renders such as cool text to use. And there is Pic Monkey and Funky Editing for cool effects, hope that helped :)
 
Until recently, I was keeping my thumb nails simple--just a good screen shot from the video and maybe some text. I am now using the PhotoShop one-month trial to see how powerful it is and whether I really need all that power. I am not very artistic, so I have a feeling I'll won't utilize most of what PhotoShop can do for me. Then I will go for one of the free ones.
