Well it all depends on what you're editing?
Gaming videos, music video, documentary, short film, feature film, montage, sport videos?
But the first thing you should always do it be prepares, have all your footage labeled and in places you can find it all easily. I always create a new folder for each project I create, which includes the premiere pro project file, clips/footage, images, photoshop/after effects project files (if I used those programs). The list goes on, but stay organised!
Next thing would be to work out how many minutes you want to edit every hour, 10 minutes, 30 minutes. basically how much you want to do in the time you've given yourself to edit.
You've then got the actual edit. So for this you want to make sure all your clips and such are in the correct labeled bins (make sure you create these, as they're folders inside your project).
Nothing says you need to start and the start when editing, I normally just start in a random place and work from there to the end.. then work my way backwards to the beginning, just because I feel like I'm getting more done that way. But, always make sure you're saving as you go.
Another thing that's really useful.. learn all the keyboard shortcuts (or just the ones you use a lot)
Can't really think of any other advise for a question which doesn't go into detail about what you actually want to know.
