Best Recording Software and Hardware?

Evanexus

Loving YTtalk
I would like some advice on what software I should use for recording. I would prefer suggestions of free software. Also, I would like suggestions on hardware I should use, such as mic's, camera's, etc. Any advice at all to be honest, would be great!

We'll going off your name I would say your a gamer, so with that said ill list the gaming important things that you might want to get as you start a channel. Everything I'm listing I have used before and own it btw.

So for the capture card the best one in my opinion would be the game capture hd by elgato, the software is free and works on both Mac and PC. The capture card is no larger than an iPhone 4 but still has the power to both live stream and capture in 1080p.

As for a mic I use the blue yeti and I think it sounds great. There might be better mics on the market but it's hard to really tell a difference between all of them unless you really listen for the diffence. But if your looking for a cheaper option there's always the blue snowball. It's a great little mic and performs very well for its price!

If you need a camera a good one would either be a canon t3i or 60d. Both cameras perform almost the same when compared in shooting video. They capture in an h.264 file format which means the files are not huge and it's web friendly when it comes to uploading.

Other things that you might want to get would be and external hard drive to store your videos, it's always a good idea to back up all your hard work on an external drive just in case your main drive fails. Also if you do shoot video on a camera think about using an external mic of some sort for better audio. I would recommend the rode video mic, for the price it's amazing and there's no need to sync up audio in post.

Oh I almost forgot for editing software there are not that many good free ones out there your going to want to spend some money on the software. If you have a Mac use iMovie it works as a basic editor and gets what you need done. If you have a PC than you don't want to use window movie maker it's not the greatest one for doing anything really, look in to Sony Vegas or check adobe for some cheep editing software.

That's about it if you have any questions just ask away.

Hope this helps!

If you're just wanting to record your screen I would highly suggest OBS (Open Broadcast Software) it's free and allows you to record your screen + game and voice audio and you can Broadcast live onto sites like twitch and record at the same time.

As for mics Blue make a great range of microphones and so to Audio Technica.

This helped me out allot! Thanks so much! Also, I plan on having my channel be more than just a gaming channel. But I'm having trouble deciding on what to do.
